Petroleum Tank Installation in Northern Virginia: The New Double-Walled Tank

If you need petroleum tank installation in Northern Virginia, you should know there’s a new option available to you – a double-walled plastic tank.

In the past, having a steel petroleum tank meant you’ve probably had to deal with rust inside and out – plus sludge. Clogged filters preventing oil from getting to the burner. Rust on the outside of the tank causing leaks and/or the steel tank’s legs to give out. Maybe you’ve even had a costly oil spill and environmental clean up.

How the New Double-Walled Tank Works
A polyethylene (plastic) tank is placed inside of a galvanized-steel outer shell. The polyethylene tanks do not rust, and are pressure-tested and liquid-tight. There is a leak detector which will sound off if there’s a leak in either tank. The tapping is up off the bottom, so oil sludge won’t clog filters.

The double-walled plastic tanks last many years longer than steel tanks, and are highly unlikely to cause expensive spills. While they do cost more than your traditional steel petroleum heating oil tanks, they are well worth it.

Even though they are new to the American market, you should know that folks in Europe have been using these polyethylene (plastic) double-wall petroleum tanks successfully since the 1970’s.
