Things You Shouldn’t Flush When You Have a Septic System

To properly maintain your Reston, Quantico, or Leesburg septic system and lengthen its life, you must take certain measures to ensure its health. Therefore, there are many “don’ts” when it comes to your septic system. Don’t park cars on your drainfield or septic system. Don’t drain water from hot tubs into your septic system. And, don’t flush the following items down your drain or toilet, as all flushed material makes its way to your septic system:

Septic System: Don’t Flush These Items

  • Diapers
  • Sanitary napkins and tampons
  • Garbage
  • Household chemicals
  • Cigarette butts
  • Coffee grounds
  • Condoms
  • Grease
  • Oils
  • Medications
  • Paper products other than toilet paper
