Septic Tank Pumping in Loudoun County VA: When You Should Not Do It

There are certain situations when it’s a bad idea to have septic tank pumping done at your Loudoun County VA home; such as when there is:

Flooding

When the septic tank is flooded, and the flooding is still going on in the area, we don’t advise doing septic tank pumping in Loudoun County VA. Fiberglass or plastic tanks could actually float up out of the ground, damaging septic piping and causing expensive repairs. Concrete tanks won’t float up, but they could fill with mud, water, and debris, which will need to be removed when the waters recede.

An old or unknown non-functioning septic system

If a septic system is old, unknown, or non-functioning, then it should not be pumped without first inspecting the entire system, including the drainfield (AKA cesspool). This is because a collapse of the system could occur, with the ground literally caving in.

Low sludge and floating scum in the septic system

Unless there is a need to inspect or repair a septic tank, septic tank pumping would not be needed if there is low sludge and minimal floating scum. Please note: homeowners should leave the measuring of sludge and scum to the experts.

A septic inspection and test

Directly before septic inspections and tests in regards to the sale of a property, it’s important to hold off on septic tank pumping in Loudoun County VA. This is because the dye used during inspection and testing would not work its way through an empty system, to show if there is a problem that needs to be addressed.
